Jamaica FEBRUARY Newsletter

2/4/2016

As we begin 2016, I want to share some accomplishments by our JV teams last year and provide some information that may be of interest to you in the new year.

The Planning and Priorities Committee held a series of meetings and surveys to gather input for the Clubhouse remodel. You provided some great information. A design team was formed by adding Donna Patrick and Vicki Bernitt (our local design professionals) to the Planning Committee and that group has been working on design elements, material selection, and budget prioritization. The remodel is scheduled to start the beginning of April and be completed in 4-6 weeks. During this time the Clubhouse will not be available, so please plan accordingly. Many thanks to the Planning Committee (Grace Lowenberg, Angela Garcia-Sims, and Ken Irvine) for their tireless contributions.

The Landscape Committee (Shellee Vance, Steve Steinfeldt, Herman Lowenberg, Karen Farmer and Jeffrey Kubler) has been focused on improving the overall maintenance of the village by working more closely with the CCHOA Landscape crew and having walkthroughs to align expectations.  The CCHOA has recently hired more landscapers and we will continue to evaluate the adequacy of resources available to the village. A few key projects completed in 2015 were: re-planting the area north of the pool with drought tolerant plants, updating the planting areas around the clubhouse and BBQ, replacing problematic trees, and skinning palm trees. In the next few months we will continue with other projects to reduce water use and beautify our village. The planters by the walkway along the docks north of the clubhouse will be refreshed, and the area between 6 and 8 Jamaica Village have the lawn replaced with drought tolerant plants.

Hopefully, you were able to join us for the Fall Festival.  The Social Committee (Donna Patrick, Vicki Bernitt and Grace Lowenberg) did a great job organizing the event and it was well attended.

I really appreciate all the volunteers who participate on our committees and share their time and expertise with our community.

During the holidays, my family made a decision that will affect us in the coming year. My Mom, who has lived independently will need additional support, so she'll be spending more time with us at home. To accommodate this need, we'll be moving to a larger home we have in Del Cerro and renting our place here in the Cays. This transition will happen in the Spring and we'll do our best to stay connected with our many friends in the Cays until we return. We appreciate the support and insights we've already received from neighbors as we begin this next phase inour lives. I'll continue to work closely with the village and the  CCHOA Board during my term as your director.

All the best to you and yours in the New Year,

Tom
